About Us

Connecting Hearts: Our Journey with the Buhid Mangyan

The Buhid Mangyan are one of the eight indigenous groups residing in Mindoro, Philippines. The term “Buhid” is derived from “Sambuhid,” referring to elevated land, which reflects their mountainous heritage. Their origins are linked to Manggat and Sayum-ay, believed to be the first people in their ancestral lands, who named the natural features around them. They have preserved their traditional writing system, which has been recognized as a cultural treasure by UNESCO.

As we frequently returned home to visit family, bought farmland, and connected with locals, city officials, and teachers, we realized that, drawing from some of the same challenges my wife faced growing up, we could help uplift the Buhid Mangyan community and do our part to make a difference. We are committed to supporting this community by focusing on education and preserving their traditions.

Exploring Buhid Mangyan Village: A Glimpse into Our Roots

We started with a simple goal: to support the Buhid Mangyan community through education and self-sufficiency. With my wife’s teaching experience and my background in corporate work, we decided to use our skills to help. We work on preserving their traditions and supporting the community through different projects.

To help fund our efforts, we set up an online store. It lets us connect with people around the world who want to support the Buhid Mangyan, allowing us to make a positive impact together.
